Herron Officially Named Principal at WPA
Herron took over as interim principal at White Plains Academy in November after long-time principal Joe Joe Matheney took a medical leave of absence.
“Getting an opportunity to serve the families of White Plains is an incredible honor,” said Herron. “I have enjoyed my semester here learning the day-to-day routines and creating relationships with students, faculty, and staff. I am excited to lead the next chapter of White Plains and hopefully continue the growth that Mr. Matheney worked so hard to build.”
Herron spent five years at Algood Middle as the assistant principal and athletics director. Before his stint at AMS, Herron spent 13 years in the Putnam County School System as a SPED teacher.
Herron is in his 20th year in education, starting in Jackson County and later going to Macon County before settling in at Cornerstone Middle School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Master of Arts in SPED, and an ED.S. in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech University.
Ben’s wife, Lesley, is an assistant principal at Upperman Middle School, and his daughter, Mylie Kate, is a freshman at Upperman High.
